In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate

Throughout history man has endeavoured to leave his mark on the world, and the Muslim nation is no exception. Of all its achievements, from the grand gardens of Andalusia in the west to the majestic Ottoman mosques in the east, the most distinguished feature of Islamic civilisation has been, and still is, a deep-rooted and assiduous ethic of service to learning and scholarship. Underlying this ethic are the many prophetic instructions placing emphasis on the duty of seeking knowledge. This heavenly inspiration led to the emergence of outstanding scholars such as Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam al-Ghazali, their lives of self-sacrifice and devoted study a testament to
the saying of the Prophet
salla’Allahu alayhi wa sallam
:

'…The learned are the inheritors of the Prophets; and the Prophets did not leave behind a legacy of wealth, but of knowledge, so whoever partakes of it derives an abundant benefit.'
(Abu Dawud & Tirmidhi)

The passage of time, however, witnessed a decline in Islamic scholarship. Colonisation impaired religious learning and encouraged the adoption of vocational and technical careers, altogether diminishing respect and veneration for Islamic scholarship and its practitioners.

But the plans of the Almighty are not limited by those of man. The revival of this religion is a promise of God and recent decades offer proof of a renewed fervour for religious knowledge and understanding. Pure hearts and humble minds have sought to tread the path of the early scholars, hoping to acquire and then bequeath the knowledge and wisdom of the Prophets.

But the path of knowledge is littered with obstacles, the most acute being the financial burden shouldered by both students and scholars. It is a sad yet common occurrence that many students of knowledge are forced to abandon their studies simply due to the lack of sufficient financial support.

It is with the dual aim of alleviating this hardship and encouraging others to tread this path that The Inheritors Fund© has been established. Having the opportunity of seeking this sacred knowledge ourselves may not have been destined for us, but we can be a part of this effort and share in the rekindled zeal through our supplications and our financial support, calling to mind the
saying of the Messenger of Allah
salla’Allahu alayhi wa sallam
:

‘'When a man dies, his actions come to an end except for three: continuing charity; knowledge by which people benefit; and a pious son, who prays for him’
(Muslim)
